Differences and applications between LCD and LCM

July 20, 2023

The difference between LCD and LCM mainly lies in their definition, composition, functions, and applications. LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) is a display technology that mainly refers to the liquid crystal display screen itself, consisting of two upper and lower pieces of glass, polarizing film, liquid crystal, and ITO film, used for displaying text and images. LCM (Liquid Crystal Module) is a more complex component that includes liquid crystal display devices, connectors, control and drive circuits, PCB circuit boards, backlight sources, and other components. It can be directly connected to microcontrollers for a more complete display system. Specifically, LCD mainly refers to liquid crystal display screens, while LCM is a complete liquid crystal display module that includes LCD screens and related drive and control circuits. LCM not only includes the LCD screen itself, but also components such as light sources, control chips, PCB boards, etc., making it a more integrated component.

In terms of functionality, LCD is mainly used to display text and images, while LCM provides a more complete display system that can be directly connected to microcontrollers, with higher integration and convenience. From an application perspective, LCD is typically used in devices that require separate display functions, such as computer monitors, mobile phone screens, etc. LCM is more commonly used in systems that require more complex control functions, such as smartwatches, POS machines, etc
